Where we work

Chester County & the Main Line

Two offices — West Chester and Newtown Square — covering Chester, Delaware and Montgomery County. Each town is served from whichever office is closer.

Before you build

Permits, Pool Code & HOA Rules

The three things that most often derail a fence project in this region — explained properly, so you know what you are dealing with before material is ordered.

Pool Fence Requirements in Pennsylvania

What the adopted building code requires of a residential pool barrier in Pennsylvania — height, gaps, picket spacing, climbable members and gate hardware — and how to make sure yours passes inspection the first time.

Fence Permits in Delaware County, PA

How fence permitting actually works in Delaware County — why it is a township matter rather than a county one, what the application needs, and the requirements that most often cause a rejection.

HOA Fence Rules on the Main Line

How architectural review actually works in Main Line communities, the restrictions that come up most often, and how to put a submission together that gets approved without a second round.

How we work

Built on Quality. Backed by Guarantee.

We are a family-owned Pennsylvania fence contractor, not a national franchise. The person who walks your property is the person who specifies the fence, and the crew that sets your posts works for us.

Every installation starts with an on-site assessment — we walk the line, note the grade, identify what affects post placement, and give you a written quote against a specified build rather than a per-foot number over the phone. We file the township permit and any HOA architectural submission on your behalf, and we schedule the crew against the permit rather than the other way around.

Posts go in below the frost line in concrete footings and are left to cure before anything is hung on them. That is the part nobody sees and the part that determines whether the fence is still straight in ten years.

Every fence we install is backed by our workmanship guarantee. If it is not right, we come back and fix it.

Common questions

Fence FAQs

What areas does JHL Fence Company serve?

Chester County, Delaware County and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, from offices in West Chester and Newtown Square. That covers West Chester, Kennett Square, Malvern, Exton, Downingtown and Chadds Ford through to Newtown Square, Glen Mills, Havertown and the Main Line at Bryn Mawr, Wayne, Villanova, Haverford and Wynnewood.

Do you handle fence permits and HOA approval?

Yes. We prepare and file the township or borough permit application and, where the property is in a homeowners association, the architectural review submission as well. Both are part of the installation, and we file them in parallel so the two timelines do not compound.

Is JHL Fence Company licensed and insured?

Yes. We are a licensed and insured Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor, registration #PA035784. A certificate of insurance is available on request, and we are a family-owned local operation rather than a national franchise.

What fence materials do you install?

Western red cedar, pressure-treated wood, vinyl, powder-coated aluminum, ornamental metal and chain link — plus ranch, horse and retention basin fencing. Which suits a property depends on grade, exposure, what the fence needs to do and any HOA material restriction.

How much does a fence cost?

Cost is driven by linear footage, material and grade of material, height, the number of gates, how much slope the line crosses, site access and whether an old fence has to be removed. We provide a free written estimate after an on-site assessment rather than quoting a per-foot figure over the phone.

How long does a fence installation take?

Most residential projects are one to two days of on-site work, with posts set and left to cure before panels are hung. Larger properties, significant grade or complex gate systems run to two or three days. Permit turnaround is separate and varies by municipality.
